The ovaries are the primary organs of reproduction in the female and may be considered both endocrine and cytogenic ( cell producing) in nature. The ovaries are solid structures lying on the sides of vertebral column behind the kidney in the pelvic cavity.
They are almond shaped and graeyish pink in colour. Each ovary is about 2-4 cm in length, 1.5 cm in width and 1.0 cm in thickness. Each ovary has a depression called hilus from where nerves and blood vessels pass.
