The Umeed scheme under Jammu and Kashmir State Rural Livelihood Mission (JKSRLM) has helped a couple from Ashmuqam area of Anantnag district establish their business

A couple from Ashmuqam area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district is earning their livelihood through the ‘Umeed’ scheme under Jammu and Kashmir State Rural Livelihood Mission (JKSRLM).

This is a Centre-sponsored scheme to encourage youths to be self-sufficient.

Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, 36, and Rubi Jan, 32, from Nambal area of Ashmuqam started from nothing. Now they have four employees working for them.

They established their business unit called Hazik Joinery Mill in 2015 in Nambal village and later shifted to Ashmuqam.

While talking to India Today TV, Ruby Jan said, “When I contacted the people of UMEED of NRLM, they helped me by providing an interest-free loan of Rs 15,000 and start my business.”

Today we earn at least Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 a month. My husband has also joined me in the business recently," she further said.Talking about how the scheme has opened doors for the youths, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat said, "The rate of unemployment is higher here but now with the launch of the scheme, many youths have an opportunity to earn a living,”

He further urged the unemployed youths of the valley to avail benefits of schemes provided by the central and union territory governments.
