Srinagar settles at -1.3°C Traffic to ply from both sides on Sgr-Jmu HW



Srinagar, Nov 21: Minimum temperatures across Kashmir settled below the sub-zero for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday, while the Meteorological Department predicted no respite from the prevailing weather conditions till November 28th, officials said.

 
On Sunday, Kashmir reeled under harsh cold and witnessed a drop in minimum temperatures.
 
 Director Meteorological Department Center, Srinagar, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that valley is reeling under cold weather conditions and no respite is expected in prevailing weather conditions till November 28th.
 
“The fog covered major parts of the city and reduced visibility on Sunday.Most parts of the Valley are recording below zero night temperatures from the past several days,” he said.
 
The Valley has been witnessing foggy conditions in the mornings during last week.
 
Officials said the foggy conditions are owing to sub-zero temperature and air pollution caused by increased traffic and the burning of stubble and tree foliage.
 
The temperatures will keep dipping till the Western Disturbance will change the dry weather condition.
 
As per MeT data, Srinagar, recorded minus 1.3 °C on Saturday night while ski resort Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.4°C.
 
Pahalgam recorded 4.2°C, Qazigund recorded minus 2.2°C and Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.3°C .
 
Kupwara recorded minus 3.1°C. Leh recorded a low of minus 6.4°C and Kargil recorded minus 5.4°C.
 
As per the weather advisory, two-way traffic is going to ply on the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Monday, subject to fair weather and better road condition, LMVs(Passenger) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
 
“TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic, it said.
 
Similarly on Mughal road, Subject to fair weather and good road condition, LMVs from both sides and HMVs (up to twelve tyres) from Srinagar towards Poonch shall be allowed on Mughal road. LMVs from Behramgalla 0800 hrs upto 1500 hrs., from Herpora 0800 hrs upto 1600 hrs & HMVs from Herpora 0900 hrs. up to 1500 hrs, the advisory said.
 
 On Sonmarg-Kargil road, one-way traffic from Kargil towards Srinagar shall be allowed on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road. LMVs followed by HMVs will be released from Minamarg (down traffic) at 0900 hrs. up to 1400 hrs. No Vehicle shall be allowed after cut-off timing, it said
