Former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid has been officially appointed as the head coach of the Team India side on Wednesday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the legendary batter will replace Ravi Shastri as the new head coach of the Virat Kohli-led side. Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team by the Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Sulakshana Naik and RP Singh.

Dravid is set to take charge as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team from the upcoming home series against New Zealand. Earlier, the BCCI had invited applications for the prestigious post on October 26 in order to name the successor of the current head coach - Shastri. In Shastri's memorable coaching stint, the Kohli-led side became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia (2018-19).

The Shastri-coached side also whitewashed New Zealand in all 5 T20Is of the 2020 bilateral series. "The BCCI welcomes Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of India’s senior men team. Rahul has had an illustrious playing career and is one of the greats of the game. He has also served Indian cricket as Head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) with distinction," BCCI president Ganguly said.
