UPSC Civil Services Main 2021 to begin from Jan 7: Know paper pattern, timings and Covid-19 guidelines

UPSC Civil Services Main 2021: The Union Public Service Commission, UPSC is all set to conduct the Civil Services Main 2022 examination from January 7. As per the schedule, the UPSC mains for the civil service exams will continue till January 16, 2022.

Meanwhile, the commission has released the USPSC Civil Services main exam 2021 admit cards on the official website, the link for which is upsc.gov.in. The candidates must check the e-admit card carefully and bring the discrepancy (ies), if any, to the notice of UPSC immediately.

Covid-19 guidelines for UPSC Mains 2021 for civil services exam:

Wearing a mask/face shield is mandatory for all candidates. Candidates without a mask/face shield will not be allowed entry into the venue
Candidates, however, will have to remove their masks/face shield for verification, whenever required by the examination functionaries
A candidate may carry his/her own hand sanitizer (small size) in a transparent bottle
Candidates must follow Covid-19 norms of social distancing as well as personal hygiene inside the examination halls/rooms as well as in the premises of the venue

Forenoon session: 9 am to 12 noon
Afternoon session: 2 pm to 5 pm

Other important instructions for the UPSC Mains exam:

  • Enter the examination hall 30 minutes before the scheduled commencement of the examination in each session. Entry to the examination hall closes 10 minutes prior to the scheduled commencement of the examination in each session
  • Possession (even in switch off mode)/use of mobile phones and other electronics/communication devices are banned at the examination premises. Any infringement of these instructions shall entail disciplinary action, including ban from future examinations under the rules of the examination
  • Use of scientific (non-programmable type) calculators is allowed and, if considered necessary, may be brought by candidates. Programmable type calculators are, however, not allowed in this examination
  • Candidates are also advised to bring a black ballpoint pen to the examination hall for making entries on the attendance list.

Exam pattern:

The Civil Services (Main) examination will consist of a written examination and an interview/personality test. The written examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects set out in subsection (B) of Section-II, out of which two papers will be qualified in nature.
