While several Jammu residents have qualified the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) UG exam, the results of which were announced on Monday evening, many of these successful candidates admit that online coaching during Covid-19 was quite helpful for them. Besides, most of these students consider their parents as a ‘great support’.
Mridul Aggarwal, a resident of Talab Tillo here, who topped J&K in NEET by securing 700 points, told Greater Kashmir that his maternal grandfather was a motivation for him. Aggarwal said support from his parents was an important factor that helped him clear the prestigious competitive exam.
“I studied from KC International, Palora from class 1st to 12th class. However, the Covid19 situation created hurdles in coaching which I was taking from Aakash Institute” said Aggarwal. Helping the poor and needy is the
reason he wants to become a doctor, said Aggarwal.
“I was inspired by my maternal grandfather Mohan Lal Gupta and my parents were a great help and support for the preparation of the examination,” Aggarwal said.
Amid Covid19 lockdown, online coaching for NEET was quite helpful, Aggarwal added. “It was difficult for me to take coaching online and follow Youtube lessons but gradually I adopted to these methods. I would do self-study for five to six hours and then three hours of online lectures” Aggarwal said.
Mridul Aggarwal’s father , Deepak Aggarwal is a J&K Bank Manager at Bahu Plaza while his mother Savita Aggarwal is a government school teacher at Talab Tillo here. “My parents were very supportive and provided a conducive atmosphere for the studies,” Aggarwal said.
Meanwhile, Dishika Mahajan, a resident of Jammu’s Channi Himmat, cleared the NEET exams by securing highest marks among the female candidates in the UT by getting 700 out of total 720 points.
Mahajan, who took coaching from Aakash Institute Gandhi Nagar said: “My parents who are both doctors were very supportive and provided a stress-free environment for studies.” Mahajan said that it was her interest in the medical profession that kept her focused towards studies.
“I used to study for 7 to 8 hours a day for the exams and NCERT books were also very useful” Mahajan said. She studied up to class 12 from MV International School Vijaypur, Samba, Mahajan informed.
The NEET results has also sent across a wave of joy across the remote area of Banihal tehsil in Ramban district.
Umar Gazalley, son of Shabir Ahmed Tantray of Nowgam in Banihal has secured 643 out of 720 points in the competitive exam.
Interestingly, Gazalley did not take any formal coaching and studied at home, while taking help from his father who is a Government Higher Secondary School principal at Khari in Banihal.
Tantray told Greater Kashmir that his son studied at Sainik School, Nagrota from class 6th to class 12th.
“He had also appeared in NDA entrance test. However, he could not make it to SSB in Bangalore selection process. Till class 12 he remained back home and started preparing for NEET without taking any coaching during Covid19 pandemic” Tantray said.
“After completing MBBS, my son is considering preparing for IAS,” Tantray added.
As a voluntary initiative, Gazalley is also preparing students of his alma mater school in Khari for NEET exams.
It may be mentioned that Tanmay Gupta, also from Jammu topped the NEET exams across the country along with two more candidates, with 720 out of 720 points. His father, Dr Akshay Gupta told Greater Kashmir that his son was focused on studies, which was the reason why his family sent him to Delhi for education.
“He completed high school education from KC Public School in Jammu and secured 100 per cent marks. As he secured full marks, we realised his potential and then decided to send him to Delhi for further studies i.e classes 11th and 12th,” Tanmay’s father, Dr Gupta said.
“He got an admission in DPC RK Puram in Delhi while staying with his maternal grandparents there. He took coaching from Aakash Institute and topped the NEET exams for which there are no words to express our joy” Dr Gupta said
